"I'm the villain of the family, remember?" - Jack Carter
Trinity Square Car Park in Gateshead, designed by architect Owen Luder appears in the 1971 film Get Carter directed by Mike Hodges. London gangster, Jack Carter (Michael Caine) while seeking to avenge his brothers murder, throws local businessman Cliff Brumby (Bryan Mosley) to his death from the top floor.
During the 1980s and 1990s, there were various proposals to redevelop the car park but these were all met with local resistance. When it was featured in the Channel 4 series Demolition in 2005 interest in the car park increased, partly in recognition of Get Carter as a classic of British cinema. Even Sylvester Stallone l (who appeared in a remake of the film) made a personal plea to redevelopment bosses at the Gateshead Town Centre regeneration Company to reconsider their plans to pull down the car park.
Having first opened its doors in 1967, the car park was eventually demolished in 2010.
