This hand drawing is inspired by the facade of the Economist Buildings, 25 St James Street, London designed by Alison and Peter Smithson in the early 1960s.
Brutalism championed material honesty and expressed function through form. The bold concrete forms and subsequent dark pockets and shadows created are a signature look of brutalist structures.
