"I am not ‘Mr. Lebowski.’ You’re Mr. Lebowski. I’m the Dude” - The Dude
The Sheats-Goldstein house, designed by John Lautner appears in the 1998 film The Big Lebowski directed by the Coen brothers. On a quest to track down 'Bunny', kidnapped trophy wife of Jeffrey Lebowski, Dude (Jeff Bridges) questions adult film producer and loan shark Jackie Treehorn (Ben Gazzara) at his striking Malibu home.
The house was designed and built between 1961 and 1963 and located in the Beverly Crest neighbourhood in Los Angeles. Originally built for Helen and Paul Sheats and their three children, James Goldstein purchased the residence in 1972 in a state of disrepair. Goldstein commissioned John Lautner to remodel the house over the next two decades until the architects death in 1994.
